{"id":183,"date":"2010-07-15T00:11:41","date_gmt":"2010-07-14T23:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gayecho.com\/glic\/?p=183"},"modified":"2010-11-11T19:46:24","modified_gmt":"2010-11-11T18:46:24","slug":"gay-rights-ngo-wants-meeting-with-patriarch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gayecho.com\/glic\/gay-rights-ngo-wants-meeting-with-patriarch\/","title":{"rendered":"Gay rights NGO wants meeting with patriarch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BELGRADE &#8212; The Gay Lesbian Info Center (GLIC) has sent a request to the Serbian Orthodox Church to meet with Patriarch Irinej.<\/p>\n<p>The request states that the \u201cGLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Trans-gender) population in Serbia is facing violence every day and that a majority of people who are committing this violence justify it with their beliefs and the teachings of the Serbian Orthodox Church.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GLIC also said in a statement in Belgrade today that the violence at the first Pride Parade in 2001 was &#8220;led by a priest of the Church&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because of this, the Serbian Orthodox Church can play a large role in decreasing the amount of violence,&#8221; GLIC states.<\/p>\n<p>The organization added that it hoped for a positive answer and that the Serbian Orthodox Church \u201cwill want to help those who are in danger and contribute to the decrease in violence against the GLBT population.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BELGRADE &#8212; The Gay Lesbian Info Center (GLIC) has sent a request to the Serbian Orthodox Church to meet with Patriarch Irinej.
